Do you think the reason why we have transexuals/transgenders is because of our current gender stereotypes/roles? I mean, just look at some of the reasons why transexuals believe that they are men or women. They say they feel like men or women on the inside and they feel like they "act" more like men or women.
When they mention "acting" like a specific gender, they always bring up gender stereotypes. But, I think anyone who has had experience with all people of all genders knows that regardless of what sex you are, everyone is an individual and we all have our own personalities. Our character is not 100% attached to how our genitals are made up. And plus, how can you feel like something you have never experienced or have been. I mean and man who "feels" like a woman has never gone through birth, menstral cycles and other biological things that come with have XX chromosomes.
Personally, I think our high acceptance of BS gender stereotypes is what is making transexuality so common in our society. I think some of these people who "feel" like the opposite gender may feel that their personalities may not fit the "typical man" or "typical woman", so they start to believe they are something else.
I don't know, what do you think?

hmm, i never really thought of it like that. i mean, there girls who are described as "tom boys" who do more "male activities", but they never seem to have any issue with their biological gender. you make some interesting points.
